Effectiveness
RegDefense employs a well-designed algorithm that picks up on a very wide array of registry issues and system errors. The program also keeps a log of all the registry scans that you run so you can track what was fixed. A nd of course, the standard backup feature allows you to restore your registry to a previous point in case of problems.
In addition to scanning and cleaning your registry, RegDefense comes with a host of additional features designed to manage and speed up various aspects of your computer.
The startup manager, for example lets you manage and control the programs that run automatically when your computer boots up. Disabling some of the unnecessary ones can vastly reduce your system startup time. The registry defrag and compression features simply trim and organize your registry to make it respond quicker when being accessed by your computer.
When we tested RegDefense, it managed to find a vary large number of errors, and found almost all of the system critical ones. This not necessarily an issue with the software, as there will always be slight variations in the error reporting from one PC to the next.
All in all, there was a definite improvement in our test PC, the startup was quicker, and everything seemed to run a little smoother.
Ease of Use
RegDefense is best for a slightly more advanced user, especially when it comes to the startup manager and some of the more complex registry cleaning options.
That being said, there is nothing overly difficult to use about this software. RegDefense guides you through the entire scanning and cleanup process fairly well. So if a simple registry cleaning and optimizing is all you're interested in, there shouldn't be any issues, even for a beginner.

Bottom Line: RegDefense is a good all-around registry cleaner and system optimizer. It's not the flat-out best registry utility, but it does a pretty good job of fixing major registry-related problems.
